  • HISTORY ASPECTS:
  • The Soviet Kliment Voroshilov (KV) series of heavy tanks were developed in the late 1930s and saw extensive service during World War II. The KV-3 was a variant of the KV series, developed in 1940 and 1941. It featured a larger and more heavily armored turret, which was intended to mount a larger gun than the standard 76.2mm gun found on other KV tanks. However, due to production delays and the availability of more powerful guns, the KV-3 never saw widespread use in combat.
  • The KV-3 was used in small numbers during the early stages of the German invasion of the Soviet Union, known as Operation Barbarossa, in 1941. Due to its heavy armor and powerful armament, the KV-3 proved to be a formidable opponent for German tanks, but its slow speed and poor maneuverability made it vulnerable to flanking maneuvers. As a result, the KV-3 was gradually phased out of production in favor of more mobile and better-armed tanks such as the T-34.
  • The KV-3 tanks that were produced were primarily used in defensive operations and were deployed in the Moscow and Leningrad fronts. The Summer camouflage version of the KV-3 was used in the summer of 1941 and early 1942. The tanks were used to protect the cities and to slow down the German advance. Despite their heavy armor and powerful armament, the KV-3 tanks were unable to stop the German advance and many of them were destroyed or captured.
  • After the war, the remaining KV-3 tanks were scrapped or used for training purposes. Today, only a few examples of the KV-3 survive, mostly in museums and private collections. The 1:72 Scale model of the Soviet Kliment Voroshilov KV-3 Heavy Tank in Summer Camouflage, is a great way to learn about the history of this important Soviet tank and its role in World War II.
