Developed by McDonnell Douglas for use by the United States Air Force during the 1980's until the early 1990's, the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III was designed for worldwide use to carry out common tactical and strategic airlift missions by transporting troops and cargo as needed. Flown by the March Air Force Base in Riverside County, California - subsequently renamed the March Air Reserve Base - which is one of the oldest U.S. military airfields, this C-17 Globemaster III has been adorned with the name of the AFB alongside a facsimile of two palm trees in front of a setting sun on its tail.
