It is the most widely used military helicopter in the world. More than 16,000 has been built since 1960, used for MedEvac, troop and cargo transport and air assault.

It offers advanced helicopter pilot training of student aviators for the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard and selected foreign military flight students. HT-18 used TH-1L Iroquois (modified UH-1) from 1972 until it was replaced by TH-57C Sea Ranger in the early 1980's.
